Como limapiar la antena / Cleaning the antenna

Si la antena no se expande o contrae completamente necesitamos limpiarla. La suciedad que se va acumulando a lo largo de los años impide el correcto funcionamiento de la misma.
Mi antena funcionaba perfectamente asi que descarte que hubiera algun elemento roto en el interior. Para asegurarme de que era solo suciedad hice la siguiente prueba:
- Conecto para que la antena empieza a extenderse. En ese mismo momento corro hacia ella, la cojo por el extremo y tiro con casi todas mis fuerzas. La antena se expande mucho mas de lo que lo hacia antes. En la superficie de la antena se ven marcas de grasa seca...
- Hago lo mismo al contraerse la antena: corro y la empujo hacia abajo. La antena se baja del todo quedando al nivel correcto.
Esto me confirma que el problema es de suciedad. Gracias a http://www.geocities.com/rotospud/mercedes/replacing_the_antenna_mast.html y a que no es muy dificil saco la antena y la abro. Su aspecto interior es el siguiente:

If your antenna does not expand or retrieve completely probably needs some cleaning. Dirt + grease accumulate inside through the years and it stops working properly.
Mine was working alright so I discarded any broken elements as I could hear the motor running ok. Some tests I did to make sure it was only dirt inside causing the problem were:
- I switch for the antenna to start expanding and I run to it pulling it from it's tip heavily. I can see it expanding to it's full length.
- I switch back for it to retract and pushing heavily into the car I can get it to contract completely.
Now I am confident it is only dirt preventing the thing from working. Thanks to http://www.geocities.com/rotospud/mercedes/replacing_the_antenna_mast.html and the fact that it's that difficult I remove the antenna system and I open it. This is how it looks like inside:

Lo principal ahora es sacar el mastil del resto del mecanismo. Basicamente vuelve a conectar al conector de 4 pines y le das para que se expanda a la vez que tiras de ella desde el extremo como antes. Deberias tener ahora en una mano la antena y un trozo de cable guia blanco de plastico y en la otra el resto del mecanismo.
Comprueba que puedes extender y contraer con la mano el mastil facilmente. Seguramente en algunos tramos del recorrido va fuerte y eso es lo que hace que no se baje del todo. Limpia el cable guia y la antena hasta que se expanda/contraiga del todo con facilidad. El motor electrico que lleva no es demasiado potente asi que asegurate que la antena va suave.
La parte complicada es la siguiente: si expandes el mastil y lo limpias queda reluciente. Prueba a contraerlo/expandirlo unas cuantas veces y veras que vuelve a estar sucio. El problema es ls suciedad que se encuentra DENTRO del mastil de antena. Yo solo he conseguido limpiarlo (y no del todo) rellenando el mastil con alcohol, expandiendo/contrayendo, limpiando y vuelta a empezar varias veces.
Limpiando todos los pegotes de grasa+suciedad que he visto y dandole al mastil muchas veces hasta que ha ido suavisimo han solucionado el problemea. He vuelto a montar la antena y ya va bien.

Now you should try to get the mast out. Connect back the 4-pins connector and switch the antenna to expand pulling from it's tip like you did before. You should have now in one hand the mast followed by a guide white plastic wire and the mechanism on the other.
Check if you can expand/contract the mast manually easy. Probably some sections of the mast are hard to move, this is what makes the thing fail. Clean the white wire and the mast until you can operate it manually and with easiness. Make sure the thing is very smooth, the electric motor is not very powerfull so any strains will make the mast stop half-way through while operating.
The tricky bit comes now: expand the mast and clean it until it shines. Now expand/contract several times and you will see it gets dirty again. The issue is in the dirt being INSIDE the mast. The only way to clean that, I could think of, was by filling the mast with alcohol and operating it manually a million times. Eventually the tings gets cleaned.
I also cleaned all the sticky black grease+dirt spots anywhere to be seen. Put the thing back again and now it works like a charm.
